LAIC’s Rollag discusses housing and child care with county commission

Housing and child care are two areas that Lake Area Improvement Corporation Executive Director Brooke Rollag discussed with Lake County Commissioners during their meeting this week.  Rollag met with commissioners as part of her quarterly update for them.

Rollag said that Governor Kristi Noem’s proposal to give 30-million dollars to Dakota State University for cybersecurity will lead to expansion that her office will need to prepare for, including housing.  She said that the governor also has proposed putting money into workforce housing.

Rollag said another area she is continuing to work on in order to help with the area’s expansion is child care.

She said that a lot of the money that the state Department of Social Services has available for grants for child care are for expansion of existing centers, so that is not something her office is able to pursue to help out in this area. Â
