40-year old Joseph Hoek will be in court again today for a preliminary hearing, after the Sioux Falls man was charged with 1st Degree Murder earlier this week. Authorities say Hoek fled Madison Police last Friday at speeds up to 115 MPH, before his car struck and killed Moody County Chief Deputy Ken Prorok.
Hoek has been held without bond in the Lake County jail since his arrest last Friday. Attorney General Marty Jackley said on Monday that it was too soon to know if the state would pursue the death penalty. Jackley is expected to speak to reporters after today’s hearing.
