Heat Advisory in effect Thursday; chance of severe weather increases

Increasing heat and humidity may set off a round of severe weather late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Brittany Peterson, lead forecaster at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says storms could fire into the early morning hours of Friday.

A heat advisory is in effect for the area Thursday from noon until 8:00 p.m.  Peterson says they expect hot temperatures to continue.

Peterson says longer range forecasts continue to show hot and dry conditions.

The Storm Prediction Center maps show the highest chances of severe weather over western Nebraska and South Dakota.
