With the ongoing COVID-19 hot spot that has been identified in Sioux Falls, centered around the Smithfield Foods processing plant, Governor Kristi Noem says some of the higher numbers are the result of more testing that is being done in that area.

The state now has more than 13-hundred positive COVID-19 cases, with 733 of them either Smithfield Foods employees or those with direct contacts to employees.

Noem says that by the efforts that residents have taken, the state continues to flatten the curve of the pandemic.

Noem says that the state received another more than six thousand unemployment claims in the past week because of the pandemic.

Noem continues to encourage residents to download the CARE-19 app to help track where they have been in case they ever test positive for the virus.  She also encourages people to check the state’s COVID-19 website – covid.sd.gov – for more information and resources. Â
