Governor Noem reports no new positive COVID-19 cases

Governor Kristi Noem held a news conference on Thursday afternoon with updates on the Coronavirus in South Dakota.  Governor Noem said at that time that there were no new positive cases to report. She said there are 41 pending cases at the State’s Public Health Lab and she is expecting to update the numbers by this afternoon.

The Governor Thursday did provide more information on the eight total presumptive positive cases in the state so far.

Governor Noem encouraged anyone who is sick or thinks they have symptoms of the COVID-19 or Coronavirus, to call his or her healthcare provider.

State epidemiologist Dr. Josh Clayton says tests can be done within a day.

Once test results are known, state Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says patients are notified quickly.

The state Department of Health has launched a website with COVID-19 information, including the number of cases found in the state, at www.covid.sd.gov.  Governor Noem says the website will be updated with current information by noon each day.  There is also a toll-free number that people with questions can call for information – 1-800-997-2880. Â
