Governor kicks off legislative session with State of the State address

Governor Kristi Noem delivered her second “State of the State” address to a joint meeting of the state legislature Tuesday.

Noem, who had proposed no increase in state aid to education next year in her budget address in December, said in her address Tuesday that revenues have picked up since then.

Noem says while last year was a tough one for agriculture, there will be a renewed focus on rural development.

Noem says she also wants the legislature to help continue work on pheasant habitat.

Noem also wants to continue the expansion of broadband internet connections and focus on tourism as economic drivers.
