First District Association assists City and other members in receiving project grants

The City of Madison received assistance in a number of ways this past year through the First District Association of Local Governments.  Todd Kays, Executive Director for the Association, presented the group’s annual report to Madison City Commissioners on Monday.  Kays said that First District provides services to eleven counties and 76 communities in eastern South Dakota.  He said that a large amount of grant money was obtained by First District members this past year.

Kays said that this past year’s total was the highest amount of money he’s seen brought in to First District members in all of his years as director.

Kays told commissioners how much of this money was obtained by the City of Madison and Lake County.

Kays told commissioners that going forward he encouraged them to take a look at comprehensively updating the city’s zoning ordinance, something that hasn’t been done since 2009.

Mayor Roy Lindsay serves as part of the governing body for First District, along with County Commissioner Adam Leighton and At-Large member Brooke Rollag.
