Feds Activating Vaccinations Through Retail Pharmacy Program

The federal government is activating its retail pharmacy program for COVID-19 vaccinations next week.  State Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon said the initial rollout includes Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, and Lewis Drug in South Dakota.

Malsam-Rysdon said more information regarding specific locations will come next week.  She said that the pharmacies at these locations will be following the state’s priorities for vaccinations.

Meanwhile, the state will receive more vaccine doses in it’s weekly allotment next week.  Malsam-Rysdon said that this week, the state received 12,850 doses, and next week they are expecting 13,550 doses.

As of Wednesday, more than 73,000 state residents had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  More than 31,000 of those have received both doses of the vaccine.
