Eight COVID-19 deaths reported Tuesday; active cases decrease

Active cases of COVID-19 decreased some in the state in information reported Tuesday by the state Department of Health.  The state is reporting just under 54-hundred active virus cases, with 193 people currently hospitalized with the virus.  Eight COVID-19 deaths were reported by the state Department of Health on Tuesday, putting the state’s total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic at 2228.

Lake County reported 27 active cases as of Tuesday and has moved down to substantial community spread of the virus.  Miner County had four active cases and is now listed in the moderate community spread category.  McCook, Moody, Kingsbury, and Brookings counties all remain in the high community spread category.  

The state Department of Health reported that close to 58-percent of the state’s eligible population had completed their COVID-19 vaccination series, while around 67-percent had received at least one dose.
