DSU hosting Global Game Jam this weekend

Dakota State University in Madison will host a Global Game Jam site this weekend in The Beacom Institute of Technology.

Global Game Jam includes 48 hours of students creating a game related to a central theme.  The Global Game Jam will take place starting Friday at 5:00 p.m. and goes through Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

Erik Pederson, DSU Assistant Professor of Game Design, said that the event allows students to participate in and witness the development of a game from start to finish.

He said the weekend allows participants to experience innovative and direct learning environments that differ from lecture-based delivery and other traditional learning settings.

Attendees can contribute to different areas of the game’s production, such as coding, creating artwork, and developing the narrative.

The Global Game Jam event is open to people outside of the degree program and Dakota State. Last year, there were students from other majors, such as animation and networking. The event is also open to the public for anyone over the age of eighteen.

Dakota State has been a host site since the first Global Game Jam in 2009.
