The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources announced last week that the Board of Water and Natural Resources had approved close to 99-million dollars in grants and loans for drinking water, wastewater, and solid waste projects in South Dakota.

The total included more than 73-million dollars in grants and more than 25-million dollars in low-interest loans to be administered by the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The grants and loans were awarded from DANR’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, Solid Waste Management Program, and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

A couple of projects receiving funding in our area include the City of Salem, who received a just more than 370-thousand dollar ARPA grant for storm sewer improvements.  Funding for this project was previously awarded by the board in June of 2021.

Also, the Kingbrook Rural Water System received a 108-thousand dollar ARPA grant for improvements to the Carthage water tower. Funding for this project was previously awarded by the board in March of 2021.
