District 8 State Senator Jordan Youngberg of Brant Lake announced Tuesday that he would not be seeking re-election to the State Senate.  In a news release, Youngberg said that he decided not to seek re-election and instead to spend more time with his family and prepare for new opportunities.  He said that he is “not done serving the great people of South Dakota”. Youngberg served four years in the state Senate representing District 8.

In Youngberg’s place in the District 8 State Senate election is Casey Crabtree of Madison.  Crabtree is a Republican who filed his nominating petitions with the Secretary of State’s Office Monday.  Crabtree is currently the Director of Economic Development and Government Affairs at Heartland Consumers Power District in Madison.  

Candidates in the District 8 State House of Representatives election this year are incumbent Republican Representatives Marli Wiese of Madison and Randy Gross of Elkton, and Democratic candidate Val Parsley of Madison.  

Tuesday was the deadline for party candidates to file nominating petitions for the state primary election, which will be held on June 2nd.  

Independent candidates have until April 28th to file nominating petitions.
