Precautions urged despite recent downward trend in COVID-19 cases
State health officials provided an update on COVID-19 Wednesday. In that, State Epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton said that the state continues to see an overall decrease in the daily number of cases.
Despite the downward trend, Dr. Clayton says the virus is still being actively transmitted, with the majority of the counties in the state seeing substantial community spread. Clayton said that people need to continue to take precautions.
Clayton also discussed Multi System Inflammatory Syndrome in children – the condition being seen in the younger population following the onslaught of COVID-19.
South Dakota reported its first case of the condition back in late summer of 2020.
Since then, Dr. Clayton says there have been five additional cases confirmed. He said three of the cases have been in the eastern part of the state, and three in the western half. Clayton said all six were hospitalized, but no deaths were reported.
