County repairing storm sirens after May storm

Several of Lake County’s storm sirens sustained damage during the May 12th storm.  Emergency Manager Kody Keefer told Lake County Commissioners Tuesday that a technician with Blue Valley Public Safety, Incorporated of Missouri has been surveying the sirens and performing preventive maintenance on them.  Keefer said that the technician found some issues with many of the sirens during the assessment.

Keefer said that some of the sirens also had bad bearings that were still covered by warranty, but the county will have to pay to cover the labor to replace them.  The total cost for the maintenance, batteries, and a receiver module is just less than 75-hundred dollars.

Keefer said that he thought he should be able to cover the cost within the Emergency Management budget for this year.  He said that he’s still working on determining if insurance will cover some of the cost since the damage was caused by the storm.

Keefer said that there is one siren on the west side of Brant Lake that didn’t go off at all and will need to be replaced.
