The Lake County Commission has approved first reading of an ordinance shortening the length of a recently enacted speed zone near Chester.  Commissioners on Tuesday considered the amended ordinance that establishes a shorter speed zone on part of 241st Street, east and west of its intersection with 464th Avenue, after residents expressed concerns about the length of the speed zone previously approved by the commission.

The original ordinance established a 30-mile-an-hour speed limit on 241st Street for one-half mile east and west of the 464th Avenue intersection.  The amended ordinance which passed first reading by commissioners Tuesday reduces the length to one-quarter mile in either direction.

Second reading on the amended speed zone ordinance will be held during the county commission’s next regular meeting on January 7th. Â
