County commission considering FY23 budget requests

The Lake County Commission started its work on the county’s budget for the next year during its meeting this week.  Commissioners heard budget requests from all of the county’s departments during Tuesday’s meeting.

As part of their budget requests, both Sheriff Tim Walburg and 911 Communications Director April Denholm asked commissioners to consider increasing the amounts for differential pay for employees within their departments.

Walburg said that the county currently pays differential pay for Sheriff’s Office employees, but he said that he would like to see that increased.

Walburg said that he would like to increase the amounts for differential pay for his office’s staff to one-dollar an hour for weekday flights and one-dollar-and-50-cents for weekend day and nights.

Denholm said she’s hopeful that an increase in the differential pay will help in attracting good candidates for her department.

Also on Tuesday, Lake County’s 4-H Extension Educator Jen Hayford asked the commission to consider approving her to be full-time in Lake County.  Hayford’s time is currently split between Lake and Moody counties, but she told commissioners that there’s more she’d like to be able to do within Lake County if she had more time.

Commissioners will consider these and other department and agency requests as their Fiscal Year 23 budget discussions continue in future meetings.
