County Commission appoints new VSO

The Lake County Commission took action on several personnel items during its meeting on Tuesday.

County Human Resource Specialist Shelli Gust told commissioners that the person who they had planned to hire as the county’s new part-time Veterans Service Officer withdrew from the position before Tuesday’s meeting.  Commissioners met in executive session to discuss how they wanted to move forward with the position.  After executive session, Gust said that she had the opportunity to visit with an alternative candidate for the position and he accepted it.  Commissioners then voted to appoint Matt Pillar as the county’s new Veterans Service Officer.  Pillar is approved for sixteen to nineteen hours a week, at a rate of $18.25 an hour, with an effective date to be determined.  Pillar’s appointment is contingent upon approval by the State Secretary of Veterans Affairs.  His first term in the position will end on January 9th of 2023.

Also Tuesday, commissioners approved the hiring of a full-time position within the county Highway Department.  Spenser Warren was hired as a Heavy Equipment Operator at a rate of $18.25 an hour.  Warren’s employment is effective October 18th.

Commissioners yesterday also accepted the resignation of part-time Correctional Officer Shawn Wise.Â
