County approves expansion of local gravel mining business
The Lake County Commission has approved a conditional use permit for a local gravel mining business to expand the boundaries of its operation. Gravel Pit Company owner Albert Lee Yager and Office Manager Donna Yager met with commissioners Tuesday requesting to expand the current boundaries of their permit for the gravel mining operation. The property where the business is operated is located east of Madison near Highway 34 and 457th Avenue. Â
Donna Yager told commissioners that the expansion is located to the east of where they are currently mining and it will still be outside of the one-thousand foot setback to the nearest residence that is required. Nearby property owner Janet Weber, appearing through her attorney, encouraged commissioners to deny the permit based on several things where they say the Yagers have not been compliant and asked that they continue to include the one-thousand foot setback condition. Â
Commissioners, acting as a Board of Adjustment, unanimously approved the permit for the Gravel Pit Company, including the original provision of the operation to maintain the one-thousand foot setback from the nearest residence.Â
