Commission sets hearing date on ordinance regarding chickens in city limits

The Madison City Commission will be considering an ordinance regarding keeping chickens within city limits.  As part of the commissioners’ consent calendar items on their meeting agenda Monday, they approved setting a hearing date on an ordinance to permit the keeping and maintenance of brooding chicks and hens for egg and meat sources in the city.

The hearing and first reading on the ordinance will be held during the commission’s meeting on August 9th.  Commissioners can then set a second reading date for the ordinance.
