City updates employee face mask policy

The Madison City Commission is updating its policy on face masks and other COVID-19 guidelines.  Commissioners approved a recommendation from the City’s Human Resource Director Kristin Olson during their meeting Monday to make it optional for city employees to wear face masks in city buildings.

Olson said that the recommendation is being made based on a number of factors.

Olson said that changing the policy to making face masks optional doesn’t mean that employees couldn’t still wear them if they would feel more comfortable doing so.

Commissioner Adam Shaw spoke in favor of changing the city’s policy.

Commissioners approved Olson’s recommendation for the change in policy, and also agreed to update the city’s COVID-19 guidelines to reflect the face mask policy change.
