City recognized as 40-year Tree City USA

The City of Madison has received an award from the Arbor Day Foundation.  The city has received the 40-year Tree City USA award from the foundation.  City Parks Supervisor Mike McGillivray said that Madison is one of only three communities to receive this award this year.  There are 32 Tree City USA communities in South Dakota.  

Arbor Day is celebrated on Friday, April 30th.  McGillivray said that the city is not going to do it’s traditional Arbor Day program this year.  He said that a poster contest was done amongst local 5th grade students.
