The cold weather has prompted the City of Madison’s Electric Department to declare an energy alert in the city for today.

City consumers are encouraged to voluntarily conserve or limit energy usage today until Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. This will assist in controlling the peak demand on the city’s power system.

Consumers are asked to turn off any unnecessary lights and space heaters.  Also, they are encouraged to delay any major appliance usage such as dryers, washers and dishwashers during the energy alert.

The city asks that people not risk their own personal safety though during these unseasonably cold days.
