The Madison City Commission has approved advertising for bids for a water main improvement project for this year.  City Engineer Chad Comes told commissioners during their meeting Monday that the project will involve the installation of water main and street surfacing on a portion of Division Avenue in Madison.

Comes said the project is in the city’s budget this year at around 509-thousand dollars, split between the water and streets departments.  Bids on the project will be opened on March 5th.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the Madison City Commission acknowledged an application for a temporary alcohol license for the Madison Fire Department for its annual firemen’s dance.  The dance is scheduled for April 4th at the Madison City Armory.

Commissioners also acknowledged an application for a retail (on-off sale) malt beverage and South Dakota Farm Wine license for Dakota Cinema of Madison.

A public hearing for each of the license applications will be held by commissioners during their meeting on March 2nd. Â
