City considering ordinance for operating golf carts

It soon may be legal to drive golf carts on Madison’s city streets.  Madison City Commissioners on Tuesday approved first reading of an ordinance that will allow golf carts to be operated on city streets.  Police Chief Justin Meyer told commissioners where golf carts could legally be driven within the city.

City Finance Officer Jennifer Eimers said a permit will need to be obtained from the city’s Finance Office in order to operate a golf cart in the city.

The ordinance outlines the definition of a golf cart, the permitting that is required, and operation requirements.  Commissioners will hold the second reading of the ordinance in June and if approved it will go into effect later that month.
