City commission receives update on street projects

Work is continuing to be completed for the year on several system improvement projects within the city of Madison.  City Director of Engineering and Community Development Ryan Hegg gave Madison City Commissioners an update on the projects during their meeting on Monday.

Hegg said that the contractor is getting some of the needed work done to have Northwest 9th Street open and usable through the winter.

Hegg said there will also be signs put in place along this stretch of Northwest 9th Street.

Hegg said that the work that remains on the Northwest 9th Street project going into next year is all of the second phase of the project, along with finishing the curb and gutter, asphalt surfacing, sidewalks, and seeding.

As far as the city’s Rural Development Phase 1A and 1B projects in the northwest area of the city, Hegg said that the Phase 1A portion of the project is substantially complete and that the utility installations are completed on both phases.  He said that much of this area will continue to have temporary surfacing on the streets through the winter.

Hegg said that some of the major work remaining on these two phases of the project will now be completed next year.

He said that the contractor working on the Phase-2 Rural Development project, which includes a 20-block area in the northeast area of the city, has most of the major work completed.  Hegg said crews continue to work on completing driveways and sidewalks while weather permits.
