The Madison City Commission has approved the hiring of an engineering firm to conduct a long range plan update for the city’s electric department.  During their meeting Tuesday, commissioners approved a task order for professional services for DGR Engineering of Rock Rapids, Iowa to conduct the study.

City Electric Utility Director Brad Lawrence told commissioners that the last long range plan was done in 2012 and is in need of updating.

In the agreement it states that the city’s electric distribution system has changed considerably since the 2012 study due to the completion of system improvements and continued load growth and development.  Lawrence said that an update to the electric system planning study is necessary in order to accommodate changes that have occurred and determine if any other improvements need to be made.

The cost for DGR to conduct the long range plan update for the city’s electric department is 29-thousand-600 dollars.
