City-Budget Ordinance Approved

The Madison City Commission has approved the second reading of the city’s 2021 budget ordinance. Commissioners approved the ordinance during their meeting on Monday. The total overall budget for the city for 2021 is close to 38-point-four-million dollars, which is more than five-and-a-half-million dollars more than the city’s 2020 budget, mainly because of the city’s Rural Development projects.

The largest fund within the city’s budget is the Electric Fund, with total appropriations and accumulations for 2021 of just more than eleven-point-four-million dollars. The next largest is the city’s Water Fund, with just more than six-point-four-million dollars in appropriations and accumulations for next year, and then the city’s sewer fund at close to three-million dollars. More on the city’s budget ordinance and budget information can be found on the city’s website.
