The Madison City Commission has adopted a resolution allowing the city to charge a transaction processing fee for residents who use a credit or debit card to pay for city goods and services.  City Finance Officer Sonya Wilt told commissioners during their meeting Monday that this will allow the city to re-coup the fees that it has to pay to process credit and debit cards.

Wilt said that these fees cost the city thousands of dollars each year.

The city accepts credit, charge, and debit cards, and also e-Checks, for any payment for things like taxes, fines, special assessments, fees, charges, memberships or money due to the city. Â
