The Madison City Commission is moving forward with recommendations for the city’s 2021 Sidewalk Improvement project.

During their meeting Monday, commissioners considered the recommendations of the city’s Sidewalk Committee, which included six different areas where sidewalks will need to be put in next year.  City Engineer Chad Comes told commissioners that three of the locations are one block long, one is three-blocks and one is four-blocks.  He said that this is the start of the process for the project.

Comes said that the city budgets 40-thousand dollars to put ramps in along the recommended routes, and the committee determines what will work considering that allocation.

Comes said that three of the areas that are part of the Sidewalk Committee’s recommendation include areas along city properties.  He said that the money for the city to install the sidewalk in those areas comes from a separate reserve fund than the money that is budgeted for the ramps for the entire project.
