The Madison City Commission has authorized the purchase of playground equipment and poured in place rubber surfacing for the Memorial Park playground project.

City Parks Supervisor Mike McGillivray told commissioners during their meeting Monday that the cost of the playground equipment and the rubber surfacing is just more than 204-thousand dollars.  Last week, commissioners approved the bid for the concrete slab for the project at a cost of close to 31-thousand dollars.

McGillivray said that the city is receiving two grants totaling more than 90-thousand dollars to help with the cost of the project.

McGillivray said that if the weather cooperates, the work on the playground project at Memorial Park could be completed by the end of October.
