The Madison City Commission has approved a request from Dakota State University to vacate a portion of a street near it’s campus.  During their meeting Monday, commissioners held a public hearing regarding DSU’s petition to vacate a portion of Northeast 8th Street between North Washington and North Lee Avenues in order for DSU to develop the area.  Commissioners heard from Dick Ericsson, the attorney representing DSU, during the hearing.

Commissioner Jeremiah Corbin said he hadn’t heard any negative feedback from the community about the request.  Commissioner Mike Waldner commended DSU for covering all of the potential issues with the request.

Along with approving a resolution for the vacation of the street, commissioners also authorized the Mayor to sign a permanent easement with the state for the property for the city. Â
