Burn ban in effect in Lake County

Open burning is currently prohibited within Lake County.  A burn ban was put into effect in the county late last week.

Lake County has an open burning ordinance in place that states that open burning is prohibited immediately when the National Weather Service places a Red Flag Warning for the county or the Grassland Fire Danger Index for the county is Very High or Extreme.

Because Lake County is experiencing very dry conditions due to the lack of rain, hazardous fire conditions now exist in the county. The Lake County Office of Emergency Management has enacted a declaration of Fire Danger Emergency and is prohibiting open burning within the county to protect public health and safety.

More information on Lake County’s burn ban ordinance can be found on the county’s website.
