Area veterans honored in special program

Madison area veterans along with Madison Middle and High School students and staff honored veterans during a special program held Friday in the high school gym.

The program was led by Danny Frisby-Griffin of Madison, retired U.S. Air Force veteran.  Frisby-Griffin explained how Veteran’s Day observances began.

Friday’s program included speaker Brigadier General Myrna Williamson, who entered the U.S. Army in 1960 and spoke of many of her experiences in her career.  She told of how Arlington National Cemetery began and the Military Women’s Memorial that is located there.  Williamson also encouraged those attending Friday’s program to listen to General Douglas MacArthur’s “Duty-Honor-Country” farewell address at West Point.

Also during the annual Veteran’s Day Program, two Madison Middle School students read their winning “Patriot’s Pen” essays, and two Madison High School students delivered their “Voice of Democracy” essays.  The program also included musical selections by the Madison High School Band and Choir.
