Local law enforcement investigating vehicle thefts

The Madison Police and Lake County Sheriff’s Departments are investigating reports of vehicles stolen from the area within the last couple of weeks.

The most recent within the city of Madison is a pickup reported stolen on Friday.  Madison Police report that it is a blue 1998 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup, stolen from the 1000 block of Laura Lee Court in Madison.  The pickup’s license plate is 43X 961.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office also reports a vehicle stolen from a residence near Highway 81 and 228th Street, that was reported on Sunday afternoon.

Two other vehicles stolen from within the city earlier were taken from the 500 block of Southeast 9th Street on the morning of May 2nd.  Police say that one of those vehicles was located in a parking lot around a block away, and the other was located in Sioux Falls, through the use of an installed tracker.

Two weeks ago, a vehicle was stolen from the rural Ramona area that was later found in a slough just south of the residence from where it was taken.

Law enforcement encourage people to remove the keys and lock the doors of their vehicles whenever and wherever they park them.  They are also asking anyone with any information on these vehicle thefts to contact the Madison Police Department or the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
