Property owners in Lake County will soon be receiving their assessment notices for 2015. Equalization Director Shirley Ebsen told Lake County Commissioners on Tuesday that the notices should be out in the mail on or before March 4th. Ebsen said that residents will notice a difference in the format of the notices they receive, as they will no longer be on individual postcards.
Ebsen said that the notices will reflect a couple of changes based on laws that have taken effect.
Another big change in legislation involving assessments, Ebsen explained to commissioners Tuesday, was the 150-percent rule.
Ebsen said that law has a sunset clause of July of 2014, so only affected about a half of a year of sales for the 2015 assessments. She said that there will be a lot of adjustments in non-ag property in the county. Ebsen said more information on the changes will be presented to county officials during the Town and Townships meeting in March.
Ebsen told commissioners that the Equalization Office will be working some overtime in the next couple of weeks in order to get the assessment notices ready to go.
