In 2012, GivingTuesday was created as a day for people around the World to help spread the strength of the people and organizations to change their communities for the better and in the process, shape the World into a more positive place. The idea for GivingTuesday is to encourage people to give back to their community in some way, whether that’s to donate your money or time to an organization, charity, or cause, to work with others such as a neighbor in achieving a goal, or to stand up and let your voice to heard in the community to make your neighborhood better, safer, and stronger.

This year, GivingTuesday is December 1st. At KJAM Radio, each employee chose a local charity, group, non-profit, or organization in the Madison area to highlight all the good work they do throughout the year. We talked with members of these neighborhood groups so you can find out exactly what they do and who they are, who’s involved in these groups in the community, and ways you can donate or help spread the message for these wonderful projects in the Madison area.

See below for how you can help these wonderful Madison area groups

Lake County Food Pantry

Since the pandemic began earlier this year the Food Pantry has asked donors to consider monetary donations rather than conducting food drives.  During ‘normal’ circumstances the Food Pantry values and welcomes food drives.  However, during these ‘not normal’ times we are focusing on acquiring food for distribution through ‘bulk supply’ purchases rather than food drives.  This approach limits personal contact and requires fewer volunteers to sort food and stock shelves.

Lake County Kid’s Pantry BackPack Program
Provides weekend food to 160 children.
Sponsoring a backpack for one child for one week is $5.00.
To make donations to either of these you can

  • Mail to PO Box 61, Madison, SD 57042
  • Deposit directly into the Food Pantry account at First Bank and Trust, Madison (use the drive through).
  • Drop off your monetary donation at KJAM Radio.
