A 4th inning grand slam by Jack Jankord powered Madison Legion Post 25 to an 8-2 win over Volga Post 114 on Monday night. Madison opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd, on a Justin Casanova double that plated Tyler Tappe. Volga took the lead a half inning later with an RBI single from Aiden Tisdall. He later came in to score on a passed ball for a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of 4th Madison loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter. Jankord then unloaded a grand slam to right that gave Madison the lead for good.
Casanova finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI. Tyler Tappe also drove in a run. Brock Minnaert picked up the win, tossing 3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out 3 batters. Volga falls to 0-5 on the season, while Madison is now 3-2. Post 25 is off for a week, until they travel to Garretson next Monday.
The McCook/Miner Legion team improved to 5-2 this season, with a 2-0 win over Chamberlain on Monday night. Mitch Kramer started things off in the 4th, breaking up a scoreless tie with an RBI groundout that scored Jackson Fiegen. Issac Feldhaus added a double in the 6th to send home Sam Gillepsie for a 2-0 lead.
Mitch Kramer didn’t need any more run support than that to pick up the win. Kramer allowed just 2 Chamberlain hits, while striking out 11 batters in the complete game shutout. McCook/Miner is back in action Wednesday, hosting Garretson in Salem.
