Howard Football opens season Friday

In 2014 The Howard Tigers had a perfect season going 12-0 winning The Class 9A State Championship. After their 32-20 win over Wolsey Wessington in the title game The Tigers lost 7 seniors from their staring line up including Luke Loudenburg who finished his career as the state’s all time leading rusher in 9man football. Howard will field an almost completely different squad this season, head Coach Pat Ruml says he’s been able to rely on his returning starters to anchor his team

The Tigers put up big offensive numbers last year averaging 54 points per game; they scored early and often and usually took a comfortable lead at the half allowing the younger players to see the field. Coach Ruml says that experience has been beneficial to the players moving into full time varsity roles this season

With the realignments by The SDHSAA Howard moves to Class 9B, the changes also put The Tigers against some new opponents including Baltic who they play in week 0

Howard plays at Baltic this Friday and then Parker next week, their 1st home game is September 11th against Canistota.
