VanRooyan named NSAA Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week

Dakota State Volleyball’s Kate VanRooyan has won her third North Star Athletic Association Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week award this season.

VanRooyan, a defensive specialist from Dakota Valley High School, tallied a season-high 33 digs in Trojans’ 3-1 road victory at rival Dakota Wesleyan on Sept. 10.  It was the first time since the 2014-15 season that DSU had swept the season series with the Tigers.

She averaged 8.3 digs per set and did not commit a single reception error in the match. She had five set assists as well.

VanRooyan leads the NSAA overall in digs with 269, and digs per set with 5.5.

Dakota State is 8-5 overall, and will return to action Friday evening when they travel to No. 8 Bellevue.
