Two DSU Track and Field Athletes Captured NSAA Athlete of the Week Honors

Two DSU Track and Field athletes have captured NSAA Athlete of the week honors.

The North Star Athletic Association has selected Dakota State senior Traia Hubbard as its Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.  It was the second time this season that she has received the weekly award.

Hubbard dominated the throwing events over the weekend at the Northwestern Red Raider Invitational.  She won the discus throw and shot-put titles in the meet, as well as earning a runner-up honor in the weight throw event.  She hit the NAIA ‘A’ Provisional standard qualifying marks in both the discus throw and shot-put.

She broke an 11-year-old school record in the shot-put with a 45 feet, 3.5 inches throw.   Hubbard’s shot-put toss is currently the farthest in the North Star conference and sixth-best in the NAIA.

SenQuavius Johnson of Dakota State was selected as the North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Johnson won a pair of titles for the Trojans over the weekend.  He won the 100-meter dash title for the second consecutive meet. He is currently ranked 12th in the NAIA and second in the North Star conference.

Johnson also anchored the Trojans’ winning 4 x 100-meter relay team with a time of 41.93 seconds which is the fourth fastest time in school history and currently leads the league as well as No. 15 in the NAIA.

Dakota State  heads to Sioux City on Friday for the Sioux City Relays.  The outdoor track & field meet kicks off with a pair of throwing events at 11 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw and men’s shot put.  The full running events start at 1 p.m. with the 5000-meter run.
