Trojans Sweep Final NSAA Athletes-of-the-Week Honors

In the final edition of the NSAA Athletes-of-the-Week honors, Dakota State swept both men’s and women’s honors. Conner Tordsen and Traia Hubbard each were named Field Athlete-of-the-Week. Riley Greenhoff and Fane Sauvakacolo were selected as Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Tordsen reset his own hammer record throw for the third straight meet in the Maverick Open for Dakota State, tossing 204 feet, 7 inches to win the hammer throw title. He also added a second-place finish in the discus throw after throwing 176 feet, 4 inches and third place in the shot put with a 51 feet, 1.5 inches toss.

Tordsen added a pair of throwing titles in the South Dakota Tune-up, winning the hammer throw with 198 feet, 5 inches toss and discus throw with 177 feet, 9 inches toss. All his throwing marks produced NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying marks, except the shot-put toss.

Hubbard produced three NAIA national qualifying marks for Dakota State. She hit two national qualifying marks in the Maverick Open, including the ‘A’ automatic qualifying throw in the discus with 147 feet, 8 inches to place fourth. She added the ‘B’ provisional qualifying throw of 43 feet, 5.25 inches in the shot put to finish sixth.

She then posted the NAIA ‘B’ qualifying mark of 42 feet, 8.75 inches to finish fifth at the South Dakota Tune-up meet. She also placed sixth in the discus throw of 138 feet, 7 inches and registered a hammer throw of 134 feet, 5 inches.

Greenhoff set all-time personal records in the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the South Dakota Tune-Up. He clocked a time of 10.72 seconds in the 100-meter dash and placed fourth. Greenhoff then won the 200-meter dash title with a time of 21.89 seconds.

Sauvakacolo broke the 100-meter hurdles in two different meets for DSU. She broke the school record at the Maverick Open with a time of 14.65 seconds (placed seventh in the race), which is the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying time.

Sauvakacolo then matched that performance at the South Dakota Tune-Up with an identical time (14.65 seconds) to earn a runner-up finish in the race.

Seven NSAA members prepare for the upcoming 2023 conference meet, hosted by Dickinson State. The conference meet begins today and tomorrow morning with the multi-events.
