Trojans Softball Drops Both Saturday Games

On Saturday, the Dakota State Softball team dropped both of their games in the Dordt Dome Tournament as they fell to 0-4 on the season.

The first game the Trojans played on Saturday was against York, where Michelle Evdos set a new single-game record in doubles. Despite this, the Panthers were able to rally back from being down 4-1, and score five unanswered runs to win 6-4. 

Evdos finished the game by going perfect at the plate (4-of-4) with four doubles and drove in three runs. 

Mackenzie Sims added two singles, a double, and an RBI. She also scored a run for the Trojans. Grace Ortmeier, Hannah Feser, and Kiley Walker each added a hit for Dakota State.

Carla Martinez had a double and collected three RBIs for York. 

Ortmeier (L, 0-3) took the setback in the pitching circle for Dakota State. She allowed six runs (two unearned) on five hits in three innings. Rosie Philop tossed three scoreless innings in relief, limiting the Panthers to two hits.

The Trojans outhit the Panthers 10-7 in the game.  DSU committed four defensive errors compared to YC one defensive miscue.

Then against Mount Marty, the Lancers used a pair of 6-run innings explosion Saturday afternoon, defeating Dakota State 12-5. The first explosion came in the second inning for the Lancers, before adding six more runs in the fifth. 

The Lancers outhit the Trojans 15-5 in the game. 

Evdos led the Trojans’ offense with two singles and scored twice. Carrington Entringer added a double, run, and an RBI. Mason Usselman had a single. Ortmeier produced an RBI.

Dakota State fell to 0-4 overall record and will return this weekend for another four-game slate in the Dordt Dome Tournament. The Trojans will face Northwestern and College of Saint Mary Friday, followed by Morningside and Dordt next Saturday.
