Trojans Open Outdoor Track and Field Season in Wildcat Classic

Over the weekend, the Dakota State Women’s Outdoor Track and Field team competed in their first meet of the season, competing in the Wildcat Classic.

Numerous local NCAA Division I, II, and NAIA schools competed in the two-day outdoor track & field season opening weekend.

Shaylee DeBeer earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles for the Trojans, with a time of 1 minute, 10.79 seconds in the race. She added a time of 16.13 seconds to place seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.

Lahna Matucha cleared the height of 4 feet, 11 inches to tie for third place in the high jump for Dakota State.

Carson Quigley leaped 15 feet, 4.25 inches to place 11th in the long jump, which was just .01 meter short of tying her personal record mark. She also hit 31 feet, 8 inches to finish 10th in the triple jump for DSU.

Madelyn Sylva paced Dakota State with a 10th place finish in the 1500-meter run, registering a time of 5 minutes, 20.34 seconds. Lindsey Roth followed up with a 12th place finish in 5:23.32, while Saddie Palmquist hit a time of 5:39.31. Brooke Beaucaire recorded a time of 5 minutes, 49.37 seconds. Courtney Meyer finished the race with a time of 6:17.18.

Traia Hubbard returned to action for the first time since the 2022 indoor season (knee injury).  She finished 10th in the discus throw with 134 feet, 6 inches. Gabriella Peitzmeier threw 114 feet, 9 inches, while Britni Plucker threw 108 feet, 4 inches. Alexis Olson registered a discus throw mark of 102 feet, 1 inch, while Bella Maxwell posted a mark of 98 feet, 2 inches. Kiana Mounga registered a throw of 96 feet, 10 inches, followed by Oliviyah Thornton with 92 feet.

Hubbard led the Trojans with a 40 feet, 6.25 inches shot put to place 13th. Maxwell followed up with a 36 feet, 5.75 inches shot put toss, while Peitzmeier recorded a toss of 36 feet, .75 inches. Mounga threw 34 feet, 5.5 inches and Plucker recorded 33 feet, 10.25 inches. Thornton hit 33 feet, 9.25 inches, while Myra Whitehead added 33 feet, 5 inches.

Raylee Wallis clocked a time of 27.78 seconds to finish 11th in the 200-meter dash for DSU.  Shakiera Gronenthal added a time of 30.88 seconds in the race. She also finished the 400-meters in 1 minute, 12.79 seconds.

Jada Anderson posted a time of 20 minutes, 34.76 seconds to finish 14th in the 5000-meter run for DSU.

The meet concluded with the 4×400-meter relay. The team of Roth, Palmquist, Beaucaire, and Sylva finished with a time of 4 minutes, 33.81 seconds to place sixth in the race.

After their meet for this upcoming weekend was canceled, DSU’s next scheduled meet is April 7-8 for the University of South Dakota Early Bird.
