Trojans Earn NSAA Regular Season Title Outright

After getting their thirteenth straight win last night, the Dakota State women’s basketball team earned the NSAA regular season title outright, following a 69-51 victory over Bellevue. 

The Trojans got out to a slow start against the Bruins, but after three ties the Trojans were able to gain control of the lead in the first quarter and hold on to it for the rest of the game. DSU took a 28-20 lead into halftime despite their early struggles, such as turning the ball over 13 times in the half. 

Coming out of halftime, it seemed as if the Trojans could start to pull away from the Bruins, leading by as much as 19 points. However, the Bruins started to mount a comeback in the third quarter getting back within as much as two points before trailing to the Trojans 47-42 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, DSU dominated Bellevue, outscoring them 22-9 in the quarter as they closed out the regular season with a 69-51 victory over the only NSAA team to have beaten the Trojans this season, with Bellevue having won the first contest. 

With the win, the Trojans finish the regular season winning 13 straight games in NSAA play to finish with a 23-5 overall record and 13-1 NSAA record. 

Savannah Walsdorf recorded her third straight double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also got two steals.

Elsie Asleesen scored her 1000th career point with the Trojans and finished the game with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks. 

Angela Slattery led the Trojans bench with ten points, going 3-5 from beyond the arc, while also securing five rebounds, a block, and a steal. Morgan Huber added eight points and four assists. 

Leading the way for the Bruins was Asha Scott, who scored 12 points, had three rebounds, and four assists.
