Trojans 2023 Football Schedule Released

The 2023 Dakota State football schedule was announced last week. While ending their competition at Trojan Field last fall as construction began on a new football stadium, DSU will play their 2023 home football contests on a turf field at the new Track and Soccer Complex.

The 2023 DSU football schedule features two non-conference contests, followed by an eight-game NSAA slate. Dakota State is scheduled to host Mount Marty in a scrimmage practice on Aug. 17. 

The Trojans make their 2023 season debut in their annual rivalry game with Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell on August 26th. DSU has owned the annual Chamber of Commerce Traveling Trophy since its inception in 2017 (5-0 record). 

Dakota State holds its eighth annual Ag Bowl contest on Thursday, August 31st, versus Wisconsin-La Crosse. 

With the closure of NSAA members Presentation and Iowa Wesleyan, the NSAA now has each member play home-and-away conference contests. The Trojans open their conference season on the road at Waldorf on September 9th.

DSU then hosts Valley City State on September 16th at the Trojan Day homecoming and Senior Day festivities. The Trojans have a bye week on September 23rd, then return to action with a two-game road trip to Mayville State on September 30th and Dickinson State on October 7th.

Dakota State will play at home three times during the second half of the NSAA conference schedule, hosting Waldorf on October 14th. DSU plays its final regular-season road contest at VCSU, and wraps up their regular-season schedule at home versus Mayville State on November 4th and Dickinson State on November 11th.

The NAIA Football Championships postseason is set for opening round action on November 18th. This fall, the NAIA had approved adding four more teams to their postseason format, increasing the total number of teams in the playoffs field to 20 (the previous postseason format had 16 teams). The postseason continues with second round play on November 25th, quarterfinals on December 2nd, and the semifinals on December 9th.

The NAIA Football Championship game is scheduled for December 18th at Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, NC.
