Tordsen and Sauvakacolo Earn Athlete-of-the-Week Honors

Two Dakota State Indoor Track athletes collected NSAA Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week honors, with Conner Tordsen and Fane Sauvakacolo earning the honors.

Tordsen collected his second NSAA Men’s Indoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week of the year after getting his first on January 17th.

He earned a pair of runner-up honors in the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Invitational after throwing the NAIA ‘A’ automatic qualifying mark of 60 feet, 10.75 inches in the weight throw, and adding a 49 feet, 11 inches shot-put toss for the Trojans.

Tordsen currently leads the NSAA in the weight throw division and is fifth nationally with his career best of 63 feet, 6.25 inches. He also ranks third in the conference shot-put with his best season shot-put toss of 50 feet, 4 inches.

His shot-put toss ranks 22nd in the NAIA (NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying mark).

Sauvakacolo was tabbed by the NSAA as its Women’s Field Athlete-of-the-Week. She produced the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying standard after establishing a new school record in the triple jump at Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Invitational.

She captured the triple jump individual title by leaping 37 feet, 3 inches on her sixth and final attempt. She broke the previous school record of 36 feet, 5 inches.

Sauvakacolo added her second event to the list for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

She also won the 60-meter dash title for the Trojans, clocking a time of 7.96, her personal record. Her time is fifth fastest in the DSU women’s indoor track 60-meter dash event.

Dakota State concludes their regular-season schedule this weekend with two different meets.  Most of the team members will be in the two-day South Dakota State Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday, while the throwing team will head to Yankton, SD on Saturday for the Mount Marty Last Chance meet.
