Sauvakacolo Hits NAIA ‘B’ Qualifying Time

​​The Dakota State University Trojan women’s indoor track & field team competed in the South Dakota State D2 Invitational, where Fane Sauvakacolo hit the NAIA ‘B’ Provisional qualifying time in 60-meter hurdles.

Sauvakacolo was the top women’s 60-meter hurdles in both prelims and finals, clocking in a time of 9.25 seconds in the prelims and advanced to the finals. Shaylee DeBeer recorded a time of 10.26 seconds in the prelims and did not advance to the finals after placing 11th.

Sauvakacolo won the 60-meter hurdles finals after hitting the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying time for the Trojans. Her time is also her personal best and fourth fastest time in the DSU women’s indoor track & field school history.

Sauvakacolo also earned runner-up honors in the triple jump for Dakota State, jumping 34 feet, 7.75 inches. Carson Quigley was ninth in the long jump after leaping 15 feet, 3.25 inches.

Lahna Matucha cleared the high jump with a season-best 5 feet, 1 inch, finishing third in the event for DSU.

DeBeer was 11th in the 400-meter dash after clocking a time of 1 minute, 3.12 seconds.  

Jada Anderson paced Dakota State with a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter run. She clocked a time of 11 minutes, 54.49 seconds in the race. Brooke Beaucaire added a fifth-place finish with a personal record time of 12 minutes, 27.77 seconds.

Lindsey Roth gained a runner-up honor in the 1-mile run for DSU as she finished with a time of 5 minutes, 25.35 seconds in the race. Madelyn Sylva added a time of 5:56.72 to place 10th, while Saddie Palmquist placed 14th in 6:09.35.

Three Dakota State weight throwers produced personal best marks in the meet, led by Gabriella Peitzmeier with a toss of 45 feet, 10.75 inches for an eighth-place finish. Bella Maxwell followed up with a ninth-place finish after throwing 45 feet, 6.5 inches.

Kiana Mounga posted a personal record  43 feet, 10.75 inches to finish 11th in the weight throw for the Trojans.  

Peitzmeier led DSU with a ninth-place finish in the shot put, tossing 36 feet, .25 inches.  

The meet wrapped up with the 4×400-meter relay. The team of DeBeer, Roth, Quigley, and  Raylee Wallis finished fifth with a time of 4:20.50.

Dakota State concludes the month of January as they travel out of state for the only time this season for the two-day Mark Schuck Open & Multi-Events. The meet is next Friday, January 27th and Saturday, January 28th in Mankato, Minnesota.
