Sauvakacolo Earns New School Record

The Dakota State women’s indoor track and field team recently competed in the Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Invitational where they excelled with personal bests, including a school record mark in the triple jump.

Fane Sauvakacolo continued to improve her triple jump mark, establishing a new DSU school record leap of 37 feet, 3 inches. She won the individual title and added another national qualifying event for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships (she also hit the national qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles earlier this season). 

Her mark is the NAIA ‘B’ provisional standard qualifying mark, just .05 meters shy of hitting the NAIA ‘A’ automatic mark of 11.40  meters.

Shaylee DeBeer added 33 feet, 2 inches leap to place sixth in the triple jump for the Trojans.

Sauvakacolo recorded the top times in both 60-meter dash prelims and finals. She clocked a time of 8.03 seconds in the prelims and improved her time to 7.96 seconds to win the title.

Raylee Wallis was eighth in the prelims in 8.43 seconds and finished with a personal best of 8.28 seconds to place sixth in the finals. Shakiera Gronenthal posted a personal record of 9.52 seconds in the 60-meter dash prelims and did not advance to the finals.

DeBeer hit a personal record of 9.97 seconds to finish fifth in the 60-meter hurdles for DSU.  She also earned a runner-up honor in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 1:01.84 for Dakota State. Gronenthal added a time of 1:14.59 to finish eighth.

A pair of DSU sprinters set a personal record time in the 200-meter dash, led by Wallis in 27.47 seconds for a third place finish. Gronenthal added a time of 31.38 seconds in the race.

The Trojan women’s 4×800-meter relay team – consisting of Lindsey Roth, Madelyn Sylva, Brooke Beaucaire, and Saddie Palmquist – was the runner-up in the race. The relay team finished with a time of 10 minutes, 40.65 seconds.

Sylva placed fourth in the 1000-meter run, hitting a personal record time of 3 minutes, 19,90 seconds for DSU. Palmquist added a seventh-place finish after registering a time of 3:33.99.

Roth was fifth in the 800-meter run after producing a personal record time of 2:28.19 for Dakota State. 

Lahna Matucha cleared the high jump of 14 feet, 10.25 inches, finishing in a tie for fifth-place.

Jada Anderson recorded a time of 11 minutes, 59.03 seconds to place sixth in the 3000-meter run.

Gabriella Peitzmeier led DSU with a 45 feet, 4.25 inches weight throw toss, earning a fifth-place finish for Dakota State. Oliviyah Thornton followed up with a sixth-place finish with 44 feet, .75 inches, and Kiana Mounga with a seventh-place finish with 43 feet, 1.5 inches.

Three Trojan throwers also placed in the top 10 in the shot-put, led by Peitzmeier with a sixth-place finish with 36 feet, 10.5 inches. Maxwell was eighth with 36 feet, .25 inches, followed by Mounga ninth-place after tossing a personal record 34 feet, 7.75 inches.  

Dakota State concludes their regular-season schedule this weekend with two different meets.  Most of the team members will be in the two-day South Dakota State Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday, while the throwing team will head to Yankton, SD on Saturday for the Mount Marty Last Chance meet.
