The visiting Mustangs of Morningside College used a strong third quarter to defeat Dakota State Women, 74-67, on Tuesday night at the DSU Fieldhouse. A see-saw battle took place in the first half with number 24 Morningside clinging to a 40-39 halftime advantage. They would then go on an 8-0 run late in the third quarter to lead by double-digits and increased their largest lead to 69-54 early in the fourth. Dakota State would mount a comeback in the final quarter, pulling within five points but never closer.

Savannah Walsdorf scored a season-high 21 points to lead four Trojans in double digits. Elsie Aslesen had 11 rebounds and 10 points for DSU who shot just fifty percent from the free throw line and saw the Mustangs shoot fifty percent from beyond the arc. DSU Women, now 4-3, will return to action this weekend. They will host the “Dakota Clash” and will play Mayville State on Friday and Valley City State on Saturday in non-conference action.
