Hubbards Hits NAIA ‘A’ Provisional Qualifying Mark

Traia Hubbard improved her discus throw mark, while numerous other Dakota State women’s outdoor track & field members produced personal records yesterday in the Mount Marty Twilight meet.  

The outdoor track & field meet features numerous South Dakota collegiate teams along with several Great Plains Athletic Conference and North Star Athletic Association members at William Field.

Hubbard, who already secured the NAIA ‘B’ provisional qualifying mark earlier this season, hit the NAIA ‘A’ qualifying mark of 146 feet, 8.75 inches to place third in the event. Her discus throw is the third best mark in the DSU women’s outdoor track & field school history.

Alexis Olson posted a personal record 118 feet, 6 inches to place 13th in the discus throw for the Trojans. Oliviyah Thornton added a personal best 115 feet, 5.5 inches to finish 14th. 

Other DSU discus throwers results included Gabriella Peitzmeier – 111 feet, 5.75 inches,Britni Plucker – 111 feet, 2 inches, Bella Maxwell – 102 feet, 6 inches, Kiana Mounga – 99 feet, 5.75 inches – personal record, and Myra Whitehead – 85 feet, 3 inches.

Plucker led DSU with a personal record 144 feet, 9.75 inches to place seventh in the hammer throw. Her hammer throw is listed as the eighth best throw in the Trojan women’s outdoor track & field school record book. Mounga hit 139 feet, 5.25 inches to finish ninth, followed by Hubbard with a season best 138 feet, 9.75 inches to place tenth.

Other Dakota State hammer throwers results included Maxwell – 131 feet, 8.5 inches, Olson – 120 feet, 7.25 inches, Thornton – 114 feet, 1.25 inches, Peitzmeier – 106 feet, 11.5 inches, and Whitehead – 101 feet, 5.5 inches – personal record.

Maxwell produced a personal record 40 feet, 2.25 inches for a seventh-place finish in the shot-put for DSU. Thornton followed up with 37 feet, 4.5 inches)to place ninth.  

Other shot-put throwers’ results included Thornton – 37 feet, 4.5 inches, Peitzmeier – 34 feet, 8.25 inches, Mounga – 34 feet, 1.25 inches, and Whitehead – 31 feet, 11.25 inches.

Lahna Matucha threw 104 feet, 5.25 inches, which is her career best javelin throw, and placed sixth in the event for Dakota State. 

Jada Anderson clocked a time of 20 minutes, 10.68 seconds to earn a fourth-place finish in the 5000-meter run. She was the second fastest NAIA runner in the race. Brooke Beaucaire added 22:01.68 to finish 10th.

Courtney Meyer registered a personal best 6 minutes, 7.03 seconds in the 1500-meter run for the Trojans. Carson Quigley leaped 15 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump.

Dakota State continues their busy outdoor track & field action this afternoon as they prepare for the first day of the three-day 2023 Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.  Caitlyn Dyer, Madelyn Sylva, Saddie Palmquist, and Lindsey Roth will run in the 4×800-meter relay at 4:30pm.
